Next unit enrolment time

Well it’s been fun (not), but this unit is almost over. So as this one comes to a close it’s time to start looking at the next two, that’s right two, units. I’ve been sitting here wondering what units to actually cover and I’m somewhat at an impasse as to what to choose. I have decided that I can leave the choice of my majors until a little bit later on, however I must choose some of the core units for this degree. Now this is where things are somewhat never wracking, because it’s been a while since I have done any study(except for this unit), I still find myself rather nervous when it comes to things.

So I’m sitting here looking at what is on offer to me right now:

  • Statistics and Research methods
  • Accounting Fundamentals
  • Business law
  • Information Systems Fundamentals
  • Microeconomics
  • Intro to Management
  • Marketing Concepts

Now I’m guessing that with all that on the board and me being able to pick two of them each study period, that well I’m not going to be actually too swamped with work. Do I get the hard the hard ones right up and out of the way or do I take things slow and start off with the easier units and graduate from there, choices.
With my line of thinking I’m guessing that I’ll try and do the easier ones first and go from there. So, Intro to Management and I’m guessing Marketing Concepts might be the best way to go.

Anyway, still have just one or two things left to do within this unit (current group project(UGH) and then a single small essay left). So with all things said and done I’m going to close out this post now and get back to scratching my head trying to think of ways to get the group to work out.

Signing off..

Busy busy busy

Been busy as anything. First thing results; got first essay results back and well toe say not happy isn’t far enough. But it seems as though I placed the wrong copy in when I submitted, so not only did I get low marks I also ended up slapping myself for stupidity. Just means I have to work harder then before to get the group work to flow smooth and get high group and individual marks.

So now, on top of having to work with a group (which I loathe), I have to push myself harder, to get a much much higher outcome. So I need to improve my memory and study skills. I am prepared to do dive in as much as humanly possible. I guess anger is somewhat of a good motivator, being I made a mistake and I have pissed myself of to the point where it has motivated me to do more and more.

I guess that is pretty much it for now. I had a whole thing planned out but then some things happened (as they do) so that, as they say, is that.

Lectures & thoughts

Lectures 5 & 6 were released (well the transcripts were) because there is no lecture this week due to it being Good Friday and all. So pretty much they revolved around team building, team work, communications, and education over a long distance (online or correspondence). Not much to say really, as I had already covered team building in a previous post. The education over distance part well, it’s not really all that interesting to start or finish with so I won’t really touch it.

So pretty much I don’t have a great deal to talk about. I had an interesting day that it for sure, with the launch of an ICBM from North Korea on the lips of quite a few people, I’m rather happy that I took part in spreading the news and keeping people up to date with things as they happened. Having been the first person in Aus to report it to people (knew about the launch 2 mins after it happened, and 12 minutes before it was reported on any news wire/network in the world). I wasn’t the first to report it though that goes to a man living in Japan @jasonhill. He managed to beat the world wire by 15 minutes, and report it as it was happening through his own twitter account. I was talking with him as it was happening discussing things and sharing information as we were getting it from Japanese TV news channels.

So all and all it’s been an interesting day, now with everything said and done, I think I might just relax a bit now and wrap this post up (been typing all morning). So I’ll leave with this final thought.

Team Work Building

Well it’s that time of week again, tutorials and lecture notes released.

Gearing up for the Wiki group assessment that is coming up, the lecture this week looks to be pretty much just about team building and working together. While I personally prefer to work alone (I work faster and more efficiently that way). So far I have about a third of the group ready with the possibility of another to join in the next few days.

When it comes to teams your supposed to be form a bond with the people that you are going to be working with; be it for a short time or an extended period. This includes, contact details, getting to know everyone’s personality, and setting a place and time for meetings. It is also around this time that you define everyone’s tasks, and defining skills that are included within the group.

After all the “getting to know everyone” stage, and once everyone has settled into a routine, people tend to go off and still work within a sub-group or even independently. At this time, people should start getting back together and meeting up to discuss progress and results along the way. Management skills can play an important role in how to keep everyone in order and calmly working together.

With the end of a project looming, communication should be increased and everyone should be calibrating more. After the project is completed and submitted, the team should celebrate and disband.

Sounds kind of a sterile post but I thought I would write a somewhat formal post. It’s not pretty but it’s fine for a blog post IMHO.
